Galla, CM kin tread over rules

Posted on 27 Oct ,2010

Ms Arunakumari stepped onto the Vasantha Mandapam of the Tirumala temple wearing slippers when the Akhanda Nitya Veda Parayana (chanting of Vedic hymns) was going on.

The Chief Minister and two of his Cabinet colleagues, Mr Gade Venkat Reddy and Mr P. Ramachandra Reddy, had reached the mandapam earlier after leaving their footwear in their vehicles. But, Ms Arunakumari just barged in and the click of her heels disturbed the serene ambience.

Though the TTD staff urged her to remove the slippers, she sat with the dignitaries. After a while, she got up and left the slippers under a wooden structure at a corner of the mandapam.

The priests were angered by her act. “Money and power seem to have blinded her to the Lord’s power,” a senior priest said.

But Ms Arunakumari clarified that she wore slippers in the prohibited area mistakenly.

Meanwhile, Mr Prasad also allegedly entered the temple of Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru at Tiruchanur, wearing slippers. But when temple officials pointed it out, he immediately removed them.
